Roy’s Riddle

“Look at your house and the dogs!” observed Roy. The gentleman replied, “Not offhand!”
Roy pondered the situation. “If the gentleman had been prosperous with an abundance of grain and vegetables in his household, rodents would likely be present. Had he enough milk and cards, cats would have been there too. If he possessed sufficient wealth, dogs would have emerged as well. Yet, he has none. What could this mean?”
Roy’s mind raced as he considered the implications of this riddle. “Can you entertain my proposal?” asked Roy, eager to delve deeper into this enigma.
The gentleman’s puzzled expression suggested that he had not fully grasped the situation. Doubts began to cloud his judgment, but Roy remained determined to uncover the truth behind the absence of both cats and dogs in a supposedly prosperous home.
