Proposal Called Off

Bhupati Das, of the village Bijipur, was negotiating his daughter’s marriage to the son of Prasad Roy from the distant village of Gangapur. One day, Bhupati, accompanied by his friend Raghav, visited Prasad Roy’s house to discuss the wedding date and other important details.
During their conversation, Prasad Roy’s daughter rushed into the room, tears streaming down her face. “What’s the matter with you?” asked Prasad Roy, clearly concerned.
“Father, I was returning from the temple when the rowdy Bhanu pulled my saree from behind and insulted me!” she sobbed. In response, Prasad Roy sternly asked, “Why did you go to the temple alone?” He then dismissed her distress, stating, “Forget about it!”
Continuing, Prasad Roy reprimanded her, saying, “Haven’t I warned you several times against going out alone?”
Bhupati Das suddenly stood up and declared, “Mr. Roy, I must return to my house immediately. There is a very important reason for my doing so.” With that, he left, followed closely by Raghav.

p”Why did you leave their house in such a hurry?” Raghav asked as they walked away. Bhupati replied, “My friend, I have decided to call off the proposal.” Surprised, Raghav inquired, “Why?”
Bhupati explained, “If they are reluctant to take any action against a rowdy who insulted their own daughter, how will they safeguard the dignity of their daughter-in-law?”
