Bhuta’s Concern

Bhuta, the shopkeeper, was known for his apathy towards others. He rarely spoke or acted in ways that demonstrated concern for anyone beyond himself. One day, a customer felt a glimmer of hope when Bhuta admonished a young boy who was dragging his raincoat carelessly across the floor. “Little one, hold your raincoat properly!” Bhuta exclaimed.
“Bhuta has some concern for the boy’s raincoat, after all!” the customer thought, momentarily impressed by Bhuta’s unexpected display of care. However, the moment the boy left the shop, the façade crumbled. Bhuta was overheard muttering to himself, “These fellows will wear my floor out in no time if I don’t tell them!” This revelation showed that his concern was not for the boy, but rather for the maintenance of his shop.
