An Interview

It was an interview for the selection of a bodyguard for the king. Four able-bodied men stood before the minister, all eager to secure the coveted position.

“Suppose the king is taking an evening walk in his garden and suddenly a stranger leaps from behind a bush, attempting to wound him with a dagger. If you were near the king, what would you do in such a situation?” asked the minister.

“I would have beheaded the stranger with my sword,” proclaimed the first candidate.

“I would have disarmed him and thrown him to the ground,” said the second.

“I would stand between the king and the stranger and sacrifice my life for the king,” asserted the third applicant.

“With me guarding the king vigilantly, no stranger would dare come near him,” declared the fourth man, exuding the confidence of a dedicated bodyguard. “Even if someone approached, there would be no question of him inflicting any harm on the king.”

Clearly, the minister saw potential in the fourth candidate and chose him for the role.
