The Elephantine Pumpkin

Chatur’s hope shines bright beside the extraordinary elephantine pumpkin, a symbol of dreams waiting to unfurl under the South Indian sun.

Neighbors

Chatur Singh and Sujan Singh were neighbors. Chatur was a poor farmer, while Sujan was a wealthy landlord.

The Elephantiine Pumpkin

One day, a pumpkin grew in Chatur’s field that was unlike any other—it was an elephantine pumpkin. He thought to himself, “This could be my chance to turn my fortunes around!” He imagined its worth in terms of gold nobels, perhaps even hundreds of them.

A Gift for the King

Chatur decided to sell the enormous pumpkin to the king. The king was impressed and said, “Let us reward this fellow!” He consulted his minister for advice.

The Minister’s Suggestion

<

p”My lord,” the minister replied, “a man who can afford an elephant does not expect rewards in terms of money. Let us make a grand gift of the elephant.” The king agreed, and he instructed his two laborers to carry the magnificent present to Chatur.
