Before It Was Too Late!

Chand Sharma, our village physician, was once away in town on an important matter: negotiating for his daughter’s marriage. During his visit, he unexpectedly met a fellow villager who informed him that the landlord of their area had suddenly fallen ill.

Without hesitation, Dr. Sharma set out for the village. He quickly discovered that the river was in spate and the ferryman was reluctant to take the boat across. To persuade him, the physician offered ten times the usual fare, allowing him to cross the river in haste. Panting and sweating, he finally arrived at the landlord’s house and administered the necessary medicine.

The villagers were deeply impressed by his determination. “How many physicians would go to such lengths for the sake of a patient?” they remarked in admiration.

Later that night, the physician’s brother-in-law overheard the villagers’ comments and reported them to Dr. Sharma. With a knowing smile, the physician responded, “Twice before, the landlord has fallen ill, but he recovered before I had a chance to give him any medicine. What could I do this time but rush to him before it was too late?”
